Dear friend,
I'm writing this on the parsonage porch with my Bible on my knee. I set out two coffee cups this morning before I remembered. My Ruth has been with the Lord since 2022, and some mornings my hands still forget.
I've pastored the same little white church since 1974. And the older my church family gets, the more I hear the same few questions, usually late, usually quiet.
“Preacher, how do I know I'm really saved?”
“Who can I trust anymore?”
“Have I done the one thing God won't forgive?”
And from the grandmothers and granddaddies most of all: how do I pass my faith on to grandbabies who don't want it? That one is my question too. My oldest grandson, Wesley, has drifted from the Lord, and I pray for him by name every night.
